Default 2009 Northeast Ximango Fly-In

Bruce Schimmel, Holiday Obrecht, Roland Martin, and Ted Gordon are planning to rendezvous in State College for some ridge soaring, thermal soaring, and hangar flying. That's 4 Ximangos. Are there more that want to join in?

When?

Susan and I were thinking of doing a trip somewhere, possibly out west to Colorado, Wyoming or Montana later this summer (August), but State College might be a good diversion, too, if the weather cooperates.

John: I'm planning to fly down from Connecticut on Aug 28, flying with the group on Aug 29-Aug 30, and returning to Connecticut on Aug 31. I've reserved a motel room at Day's Inn on S. Pugh St in St College.

Hey Ted,

Okay, I'll mark it on my calendar. Looks like about 5 hours flight time from here.

Default Great Soaring over State College, PA

Because of lousy weather on Friday and Saturday, the 2009 Northeast Ximango Fly-In was reduced to a one day event.

Gary Keefer (N631X), Holliday + Wolfie Obrecht (N9154H) and Roland Martin (N97SM) met for soaring and sharing of experience on Sunday August 30, 2009 at the University Park Airport (KUNV) near State College, PA.

Weather Was great. 5 kts lift to 6000 ft. Westerly winds 12 kts on the ground, about 20 - 25 kts at cloud base. Great cloud streets to follow, but no usable ridge.

I see that Roland also posted some pictures in a Photo Album. A quick link is located here: link
